athryn Hirst, Ph.D., joined the Biostatistics Center in
1999 as Associate Research Professor. She is currently
principal investigator of the coordinating centers for:
Sarcoidosis Genetic Analysis (SAGA), funded by NHLBI
Minimally Invasive Surgical Therapies (MIST) for
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, funded by NIDDK
Studies to Treat Or Prevent Pediatric Type 2 Diabetes
(STOPP-T2D), funded by NIDDK
She is also coordinating center co-investigator on
Prospective Investigation of Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis
(PIOPED) II , funded by NHLBI. Previously she was
coordinating center principal investigator for
Preventative
Estradiol for Inhibition of Angioplasty Restenosis Lesions
in Older Women (PEARL) Estrogen, funded by NIA, and
coordinating center co-investigator on
Sites Testing
Osteoporosis Prevention/Intervention Treatment (STOP/IT),
funded by NIA, and the
Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP),
funded by NIDDK. Dr. Hirst teaches a course on statistics
for biological sciences offered annually by the George
Washington University Department of Statistics. Prior to
joining the Biostatistics Center, she was Senior
Biostatistician in the Department of Biostatistics and
Research Epidemiology at Henry Ford Health System and
Assistant Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of
Preventive and Societal Medicine at the University of
Nebraska Medical Center.
