arah E. Fowler, Ph.D., is the Director of the Biostatistics Center and Research Professor of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. Dr. Fowler is currently Coordinating Center Principal Investigator of the following projects: the NIDDK- funded Diabetes Prevention Program , the NHLBI-funded Sarcoidosis Genetic Analysis study and Prospective Investigation of Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis study . She was previously Principal Investigator for the Coordinating Center of the NICHD Chorionic Villus Sampling and Amniocentesis studies, Maternal Fetal Medicine Units Network , Sites Testing Osteoporosis Prevention / Intervention Treatments , and Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding Intervention Trial . She was also Co-Investigator and biostatistician for the Minocycline in Rheumatoid Arthritis Trial and the NICHD-funded Women's Health Study .

r. Fowler has 28 years experience as a biostatistican in multi-center studies. She previously worked at the Biostatistics Center for over 19 years, and served as both coordinating center biostatistician and Director of Computer Operations. While at Henry Ford Health System Department of Biostatistics and Research Epidemiology for 8 years, she served as head of the Coordinating Centers Section, and as Co-Director of the Academic Coordinating Center Unit specializing in coordination and site management for pharmaceutical-funded trials. She has also served as a member of Data and Safety Monitoring committees for several NIH-funded multi-center trials. Results of the studies she has coordinated have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Annals of Internal Medicine, and the Lancet. Dr. Fowler is interested in the analysis and interpretation of clinical trials, organization and management of trials, and the application of computer and data base technology to improving the quality of clinical trials.
