Principal Investigator: Pamela Katzen Burrows, M.S.

he Biostatistics Center serves as the Data Coordinating Center for the study of Randomized Trial to Study Tamsulosin for Urolithiasis in the Emergency Department (STONE); this NIDDK funded study is being conducted by the George Washington University Medical School. This is a placebo-controlled two-armed trial to determine the effects of tamsulosin on the proportion of patients passing a kidney stone. The study will also determine whether there are subsets of patients who may derive greater benefit than others by comparing clinical outcomes stratified by: gender (male vs. female); age; stone size; stone location; stone recurrence. Funded by the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) grant # NIH R01 DK071603-01 (2006-2009).
