Karl J. Kreder, Jr., M.D. is a professor of surgery at the University of
Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Department of Urology at the University of Iowa
College of Medicine, Iowa City, Iowa. Dr. Kreder received his medical
degree from Georgetown University in 1981. Dr. Kreder was employed as an
army flight surgeon in Schwaebisch Hall, Germany from 1982 to 1984. He held
an internship and residency in Urology at Tripler Medical Center in Hawaii
and a fellowship in urodynamics and reconstructive urology at Duke
University Medical Center. He was appointed Chief of Urology at Darnall
Army Community Hospital Service as well as Assistant Chief of Urology at
Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, and joined the University of Iowa in 1992 as
an assistant professor.
Dr. Kreder's areas of research and clinical interest include BPH, tissue
healing, bowel physiology, urodynamics and incontinence.
Professional affiliations include American Aviation Association; Urodynamics
Society; Genitourinary Reconstructrive Surgeons Society; and American
Urological Association, among others. He has been a reviewer for several
medical journals including Urology, Journal of Biomechanics,and Neurourology
and Urodynamics. He is a member of the NIDDK External Advisory Committee
for the Interstitial Cystitis Clinical Trials Group.
